Merbau (Intsia bijuga) is prized across the architectural and interior specification market for its warm reddish-brown to chocolate tones, high natural oil content and consistent mechanical performance. Its density of 750–900 kg/m³ and EN 350 Class 1–2 durability make it suitable for both premium interior flooring and protected exterior applications. The wood kiln-dries well with minimal movement, making it a reliable choice for wide-format parquet, engineered flooring systems and exterior deck boards. Merbau's distinctive colour deepens with age, and its smooth surface responds well to oil and hardwax-oil finishes. Particularly popular in the European parquet market, it is frequently specified for residential and hospitality interiors that require warmth, character and longevity.
