Resak (Vatica spp.) occupies a unique position among SE Asian hardwoods — it is simultaneously one of the heaviest (870–1,100 kg/m³) and one of the most naturally durable (EN 350 Class 1–2) species available in the regional market. These properties make it the specification of choice for applications subject to sustained mechanical stress, impact loading and marine exposure: harbour pilings, marine fenders, bridge support components and industrial workbenches designed to absorb repeated heavy impacts. The wood's extreme hardness (Janka ~14,000 N) makes machining very demanding — carbide-tipped tooling and slow feed rates are required — but the resulting surfaces are highly wear-resistant and structurally reliable.
